If you’ve gone into a home décor retail store or shopped online over the past few years, you’ve seen a plethora of faux plants for almost every home style. In fact, the farmhouse style makes it easy to incorporate faux plants, wreaths, branches and stems into your home décor due to its simplicity. Since the goal of decorating in the farmhouse style is to bring the outdoors in, artificial plants are the perfect way to achieve an earthy, organic look and feel throughout your home. Who doesn’t love bright greenery that is simple and hassle-free to accent your neutral or colorful décor?
Faux plants have a lot of benefits, and in this post, I’ll discuss the benefits of green artificial plants. I will also share my favorite farmhouse faux plants, succulents and stems for your home’s interiors. Hopefully, by the time you are done reading, you will be inspired to invest in some greenery for your own home.
Faux Plants are as GOOD as the REAL Deal
One of the things I love about faux plants is their realistic look and feel. In fact, an untrained eye would find it difficult to distinguish quality faux plants from real live plants. Designers of faux plants have done an amazing job in ensuring the plants’ color and texture are as realistic as possible. They also ensure that the branches, flowers, and leaves are naturally distributed on the plant, thereby adding more life and movement to the plants.
Some of my favorite faux plants are actually potted trees. I actually own a couple of fiddle leaf trees and one olive leaf tree. I absolutely love both varieties, and they are well made and very realistic. They fill large, empty spaces in my home, and I’m particularly excited that I am not able to kill either of these artificial plants.
The faux fiddle leaf tree I purchased is constructed of plastic and polyester with wire stems. In addition, the faux potted olive tree is made of the same materials yet there’s such a contrast to their look and feel.
Check out a few of my favorite faux plants if you have a big space to fill in your living or bedroom areas or want to add a level of elegance to your space. They include the following: fiddle leaf, fan palm, olive, rubber and lemon plants, and trees.
Are Easy to Maintain
It is impossible to discuss artificial plants without stressing that they are low maintenance. At the very least, natural plants require water, sunlight, and minerals to grow. On the other hand, faux plants and stems require the least amount of effort to maintain them properly. Similarly, you may need to dust your faux plants and stems a few times a month in order to maintain their luster and shine.
I love the look of green stems in a vase. Whether it’s a clear or green recycled vase or an earth-colored ceramic vase, bright green stems will make a statement within your farmhouse style home.
My favorite farmhouse style faux plants and stems, especially for spring and summer, are varieties of ferns, eucalyptus, ficus, laurel, and gardenia. The faux versions are much easier to maintain than their live versions since they will not wilt or turn brown like the real versions.
Check out a few of my favorite faux botanicals and how to style them throughout your farmhouse here and here. They will elevate your farmhouse decor and create an inviting picture-perfect look. Go ahead and place them in water to make them look even more realistic. Your family and friends will not know the difference.
Can be Displayed Anywhere
The last thing I love about faux plants is that you can place them anywhere in your home. Since they do not require sunlight, you can even place them in the darkest areas of the home. You can also safely add the plants to your home without worrying about the possibility of an allergic reaction. If you have pets, faux plants are beneficial since a number of real live plants are harmful to pets.
Since faux plants do not require water, they can be placed on your electronics, bookshelves, and sideboards without the fear of possible water damage. Again, add water to your clear vases/jars, and watch your faux stems and branches come to life. Of course, the water will not harm your plastic covered branches and stems; however, I would ensure that no metal wire is exposed.

To sum up this post, I recommend faux plants to create a bright, inviting farmhouse style home. These plants are remarkably durable and will last for years if cared for properly. If you’re apprehensive about bringing in faux plants (because you’re an avid gardener), just give it a shot. Even Joanna Gaines uses faux stems, branches and plants in her Fixer Upper style home remodel projects and her Magnolia Home shop.
If you’re really adventurous, mix in some real plants with your faux plants and stems. Not only do I love my artificial plants, but I have just added real succulents and a couple of snake plants to my home. I’m super excited to watch these plants grow, so stick around for the fun.
I hope you are being safe and staying inside during these difficult times. My heart and prayers go out to everyone affected by this pandemic.
Be blessed!
