I’m so happy to share with you my powder room refresh. It’s a very small bathroom, so I wanted to spruce it up to give the space more style and substance.

When I moved into my home in August 2017, I hired a contractor to install board and batten in my dining room. I was so smitten with the look that I decided to give the powder room wall a farmhouse bathroom look and feel. This was the extent of my updates at the time; however, I knew I would revisit this space eventually. Before I get into the powder room refresh, let me drop a before picture to remind you of what the `builder grade bathroom looked like.
SMALLL, BUILDER GRADE POWDER ROOM BEFORE:
The powder room is located behind the mudroom and is adjacent to my kids’ playroom/study and a closet.
Late summer 2019, I began making cosmetic changes to my entire first floor including new quartz countertops in the kitchen, custom trim work and painting throughout the entire first floor (and

So, let’s jump right into this refresh! Since the board and batten
I considered several wallpaper designs. In addition, I spent countless hours on Pinterest trying to locate the perfect wallcovering. I ordered samples from an online company, and I also took home several wallpaper design books from Sherwin Williams. My three choices were for a modern farmhouse bathroom look were: Pick up Sticks (Magnolia Home), Woven Trellis (Magnolia Home), Willow Wallpaper in Black (Magnolia Home) and Trellis Black Montauk (Brewster Home Fashions).
After weeks of contemplation, I finally chose a pattern. I
The goal when sourcing the wallpaper was to find a simple pattern that would keep the space bright and modern. Decidedly, the wallpaper I chose is a very modern and simple wallpaper design that fits within the modern farmhouse style easily.
The ceiling was painted with the Sherwin Williams Elegance White prior to the wallpaper installation. The contractor I hired installed the wallpaper with ease. She sized the walls with Gardz prior to applying the vinyl wallpaper.
The next step in the powder room refresh was to change out the pedestal sink with a freestanding vanity. For one thing, the pedestal sink just didn’t fit the style that I was going for, so it had to go! I ordered this gray freestanding vanity from Wayfair when I couldn’t find anything that I loved locally (or within my budget). We’ll get back to the budget later.
The plumber had to retrofit the vanity due to the location of the existing pipes and the shoe molding. After the plumber prepped the location for the vanity, I realized that the vanity did not come with a backsplash. Since I was getting new quartz countertops in my kitchen, I reached out to the marble and granite company to see if they can remove the porcelain from the vanity and replace it with marble.
It was a simple removal, so I picked out a piece of marble for the top. All things considered, this increased my budget significantly, but it was well worth the cost.
The specifications on the marble top are: 3.5 square feet Nambi White marble (Level 7) for the top and .7 square feet for the backsplash; the finished edge is “eased”; and a 10″
I opted to change out the fixtures during the powder room refresh. I selected matte black fixtures to include the towel ring, toilet paper holder, vanity pulls, and the light fixture. Fun fact: I found all of these items on Amazon! All in all, the quality is great, and I couldn’t be happier with the pieces.
The faucet was a great Amazon find as well. I love the waterfall faucet, and it was also very inexpensive.
It was so impossible to find a matte black vanity light fixture, and I’m so happy I located this one on Amazon.
I purchased the accessories from Homegoods, The Container Store, and shopped my home for the faux succulents and plants. The artwork on the wall was a Homegoods find as well.
Overall, this was an easy, fun project. I would like to change out the toilet handle and the mirror in the future.
What do you think of the my bathroom refresh project?
