Hello friends! It’s week four, and I’m excited to share the One Room Challenge: Week 4 lighting selections in my daughter’s bedroom. If you missed the first, second and third weeks (design plan, painting, wallpaper, and furniture), you can go check them out here, here and here. Last week, I showed you all of the furniture that was purchased for this space. Now that the furniture is in place, the room is starting to look really good. I’m very pleased with the furniture selections, so it was time to move on to lighting selections.
Lighting (Before)
Previously, the lighting selections for this space were not great. As you can see from the below photo, this flush mount ceiling light fixture was a very poor choice for this space. The light shining through the crystals would reflect all types of shadows all over the room. In addition, the light fixture would pop every so often, and this scared my daughter when she was sleeping.
I don’t know what I was thinking when I purchased that light fixture, but I can admit that is was not a good choice. So what do you do to recover? Well, you go out a purchase one of the most popular chandeliers at Ikea. When I say popular, I mean popular.
Ceiling Light Fixture
If you go on Instagram, you will see this light fixture in a lot of homes. Whether it’s a modern or Boho, this chandelier makes a statement. In addition to being very inexpensive, it is also a very beautifully crafted light fixture.
I was extremely surprised when I opened the box and saw this chandelier for the first time. Of course, it was even more beautiful when it was installed.
In addition to overhead lighting, my daughter’s bedroom also needed some task lighting. Whether it was for reading or doing school work, I knew she need several different lighting options in her bedroom.
As you can see from the before photo, her room lacked adequate lighting. Other than the ceiling light, she had one table lamp. Her bedroom was extremely drab and in need of a pick me up!
Lighting Selections – Table Lamps
So, I searched one of my favorite stores for task lighting options. Of course, Target did not disappoint. I found more than enough options, and I’m very pleased with the lighting selections that I chose.
I chose two small table lamps to flank her bed. Again, I do not want to detract from this beautiful wallpaper, so I needed to select lamps with a low profile. The white table lamps with the scallop details are the perfect addition to her bedroom. I love the size and shape of the lamps. Typically I do not like the lamp shades that come with a lot of lamps; however these are the perfect shape and size.
Previously, my daughter did not have a desk in her bedroom. I thought it was be a great idea to add a desk so she could do her drawing and writing. So with a desk comes the need for lighting especially since the Ikea chandelier is a one bulb light fixture.
The lamp that I chose fits this space perfectly. I love the modern/contemporary style of this table lamp, and it goes well with the rest of the gold finishes in the room. The lamp is constructed very well (acrylic and iron), and I think it will withstand my daughter’s use.
ORC Progress – Half Way Mark
So we’re half way through the One Room Challenge, and I am super exciting about the progress so far. My goal was to get the big items completed early on in the process, so now I’m focusing on art, photos, shelving, storage and accessories. For me, this is the exciting part of bringing this space together.
Last week I showed the furniture selections; however I had not received this beautiful gold metal desk chair. It’s from CB2, and it’s such a great piece of furniture. Of course, I had to purchase this Icelandic Sheepskin chair pad to soften up the metal chair.
We also hung this beautiful rattan mirror which I purchased from Urban Outfitters. I always love to place mirrors in bedrooms, and it’s a great size for this space.
