Hello friends! It’s week two of the One Room Challenge, and I’m excited to share the painting and wall mural. If you missed the first week (design plan), you could go check out week one here. I do recommend that you start with week one. In week one, I shared plans and goals for my daughter’s bedroom. Additionally, I share some before pictures of her space. Before we get into the progress for this space, please click here to check out the featured designers and guest participants for this challenge.
Painting
Let’s start with the paint colors that I considered for this space. I took the sample of the wallcovering to the Sherwin Williams store, and I selected three paint samples. The pink colors that I chose are:
The goal was to compliment the bold wallcovering with a light, muted pink. Of course, I compared the samples to the wallcovering during various times of the day to get a real sense of the color. I did get my daughter’s input, as well.
I decided on Sherwin Williams Rosily since it was the perfect match for this space. This color is a very light shade of pink-red, and it complements the darker pinks in the wallcovering very well. Of course, the lighter color makes the room bright and is reminiscent of boho color palettes.
Once we chose the paint color, I hired a painter to come in a paint three of the walls and the ceiling.
It took roughly four hours to paint and clean up. The ceiling paint is Sherwin Williams Eminence High Performance Ceiling Paint in Bright White (flat sheen), and I’ve used it throughout my home.
Wall Mural Selection
Now, let’s talk about the wallcovering (or mural) that I chose. I researched a lot of floral wallpaper and murals, and I stumbled across Anewall on Instagram. To say the least, I was blown away with all of the bright, decorative murals.
Immediately, I searched Pinterest to see how these murals looked in an actual home. There was so much inspiration; however, I feel in love with Tamera Mowry’s nursery project. She used this mural as an accent wall in her daughter’s nursery. It is so stunning. Once I showed it to my daughter, she was just as smitten as I was.
I ordered a sample of the Spring Floral Wallpaper Mural from Anewall to get a better look at the colors. It was a small sample; however, it was just enough of the pattern to plan my color palette and paint selections. The bold pinks, yellows, and coral colors gave me tons of inspiration when planning my overall design. It will give my daughter’s room a modern look that I am envisioning in my head. Instead of the traditional muted boho vibe, I want to create a space that has more of a modern boho feel. Of course, this look is perfect my seven-year-old daughter.
Custom Wall Mural
The wallpaper comes in a standard size (125×125 inches); however, my wall was a tad bit longer (168×108 inches). I reached out to Anewall, and they customized the size to fit my space. The production time was 5-7 business days, and it took approximately four days to arrive. I selected the pre-pasted option based on my wallpaper installer’s recommendation.
The wallpaper installer arrived a couple of days after the room was painted. She also installed wallpaper in my powder room. Click here to check out that space.
She did a fantastic job of installing the wallpaper mural. The seams are barely noticeable to the naked eye. This wallpaper mural looks as if someone painted a mural on the wall. I love the bright colors, and the mural is a perfect contrast to the wall paint color.
Trim
Once the painting and wall mural were completed, the carpenter added a three-piece crown molding to give the space a finished look. This particular style of molding was recommended by my carpenter. He thought it would give an illusion of a substantial piece of crown molding.
The three-piece of crown molding was created using two pieces of base molding and one piece of crown molding.
Next Steps
Now that the paint and wallpaper have been installed, it’s time to put together some furniture. Please check back next week to get a glimpse of the furniture that I chose for this space.
