I’ve created a moody home office that is both pretty and functional! You don’t have to be an interior designer or professional organizer to make an impact on your space. Follow along with me as I show you how to create a moody home office vibe that is both a modern and efficient workspace that inspires me daily.
A Modern, Moody Home Office
A home office is a place to play, work, and get inspired. It’s important to make sure your home office is organized and clean so you can work at your best. If you need help creating a moody vibe for your modern home office, here are some tips:
- Use different textures on the walls (like a moody home office built-in or accent wall)
- Add unique decor items such as baskets, plants, or bookends
- Choose artwork that matches the color scheme
Home Office Built-in Desk and Bookshelves
One of the ways I wanted to bring moodiness into my home office was to design and have my contractor create a built-in desk with bookshelves for styling. I wasn’t sure about how high up the bookshelf should go; however, once we got started, I knew we had to use all of the vertical space.
The color is Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black which is one of my favorite moody colors. I opted not to paint the entire space black, but instead use the bookshelf wall as an accent wall.
The built-in desk allows for extra workspace as well as storage. It’s the standard chair height and gives the flexibility of having a laptop and desktop for working on multiple clients and/or projects.
The brass and leather hardware completes the space and gives it a very modern look and feel.
Designer Styling
Designer styling is the key to creating a moody home office. It’s an easy way to add personality and make your space feel more like you. The possibilities are endless when it comes to styling this room, especially when using color, pattern, and texture in unique ways. Whether you prefer a specific look or want to mix and match styles, adding designer elements is one of the best ways to personalize your home office space.
I went with custom drapes for this space since it’s at the front of my home, and I have this large curved window. The ceilings are 12′ in this space, so it wasn’t easy to source drapes that would be long enough to give the space a designer look.
Create a Space for Work and Play
When you’re working from home, it’s important to create a space that can be both welcoming and productive. For example, I like having my desk near a window so that I have plenty of natural light while I work. It also gives me something interesting to look at when I need a break from staring at my computer screen.
I have a comfortable chair in the office area of my home because sometimes I just want some downtime where I don’t feel like standing up or sitting on the floor. And since this is where I also read, it is nice to have somewhere comfortable to sit while I read or browse social media on my iPad!
Since I have become a plant Mom, I have dispersed Iive plants throughout this space. They brighten up the home office and create the perfect sanctuary.
I created a modern home office with the perfect moodiness and inspiration. I used my Pinterest boards to inspire me and organized my office to make it easy to work in. Keeping my office clean and organized is simple — I store my files, notebooks, magazines, and other paperwork in boxes/bins behind the cabinet doors.
