In this blog post, I am discussing how I reorganized the kids’/guest bath linen closet in my home, as well as sharing some tips and ideas. I really enjoy organizing spaces in my home, so this was a no brainer when I evaluated which spaces in my home could benefit from a makeover from top to bottom.

This closet has wire shelving and has not been updated with built-ins. Since the linen closet is highly functional, and we have more than adequate space for storage in this current bathroom, I didn’t feel the need to invest in a custom linen closets Perhaps in the future I will revisit that, but for now, these wire shelves are more than good!
My initial organization within this linen closet was a mix of baskets and bins. I move the existing bins into my guest bedroom closet for now, and I repurposed these Y-weave plastic bins for use in this linen closet. I had just enough bins that were gathered from the kids’ playroom and my master bathroom.
Kids/Guest Bath’s Linen Closet – Before Picture
For this makeover, I wanted to keep it budget-friendly, so I used items from Target exclusively.
Below, I will walk you through the organization of my kids/guest room linen closet, and provide some tips on how to not only make your linen closet functional but how to make it look pretty! I have learned that pretty organized spaces are easy for me to maintain!
As you can see from the initial photo, I had a system in place; however, some of the bins and baskets were not sized appropriately for the items I was trying to contain. For example, the use of the large bins as laundry hampers was not very functional since it was difficult for me to remove them on laundry day.
On a trip to Target, I discovered these smoke-colored trays, and I fell in love with them. I knew I wanted to contain a lot of small things, and these were perfect. They stack well and come in various sizes. I knew they would be a nice contrast between the white and Y-weaves baskets and the metal bins.
My steps for achieving an organized kids/guest bath linen closet are:
Step 1 – Remove Everything
My first step was to remove everything from the space. This allowed me to see if the larger items I planned to repurpose would fit the space. I had already measured it using my handy tape measure; however, I’m a very visual person. When I got the layout the way I wanted it, I then moved on to the next step!
Step 2 – Assess Your Current Items
In most spaces, this is the hardest part of organizing. Because I had a system, and it’s a small space, I was able to breeze through this part of the project. The only real dilemma was to figure out how many of the trays I needed to contain the small items such as first aid, sunscreen and cleaning disinfectants.
Step 3 – Use Bins and Baskets
In this space, the bins and wire baskets were the perfect way to contain the towels, sheets, and blankets. The use of the open wooden bin from Target to store the rolled washcloths is a perfect way for kids to see their towels. Now, let’s see if I can get them to keep them rolled! The lighter wood tones really go well with the plastic and metal bins. I used the larger wire baskets as laundry hampers since they were the perfect match for the smaller bins.

Step 4 – Label everything
I knew I wanted to label everything since the linen closet would be shared by the twins. They each have their own separate bath; however, my daughter does not have a linen closet. I was using her built-in closet to store her items; however, she needs that space for clothing and toys. I found these black chalkboard labels on Amazon, and I knew they would be perfect for hanging on the bins. They are very sturdy and they look great! I used my DYMO Desktop Label Maker from Amazon to create the labels, and I affixed them to the chalkboard labels.
So there you have it – simple and budget-friendly ways to organize your linen closet. I really hope that these tips combined with a peek in my linen closet have inspired you and take on your own linen closet makeover.
