Hello friends! It’s week three of the One Room Challenge, and I’m excited to share the furniture selection for my daughter’s bedroom. If you missed the first and second weeks (design plan, painting, and wallpaper), you can go check them out here and here. Before we get into the progress for this space, please click here to check out the featured designers and guest participants for this challenge.
Let’s start off by revisiting my daughter’s space again. As you can see from the photo below, she had all white furniture with pops of pink, yellow, and green. She had a twin size bed and one nightstand flanking the bed. There was also toy storage and a dollhouse. Of course, she was reluctant to part with the dollhouse. I convinced her that the water she placed in the toy bathtub sort of ruined the dollhouse a couple of years ago.
My daughter’s bedroom setup worked for a few years; however, I knew it was time to give her a larger bed. She’s almost eight years old, so it was time to switch up her bed.
Furniture Selections
Now, let’s talk about furniture selection. Of course, the first piece of furniture I search for was this tufted platform bed that I purchased from Wayfair. I wanted a modern look for this space, so this Alanna Tufted Upholstered bed was a great selection.
Tufted Platform Bed
I know some people love rattan beds for a Boho look; however, this low profile bed gives this space the modern Boho chic vibe that I was going for. Of course, the low profile bed is perfect for showing off this beautiful wall mural. I’m undecided on whether or not I will place wall art above the bed, so you will need to stay tuned for that decision in the coming weeks.
Assembling this bed was not very difficult; however, it did take roughly an hour to put together. I put it together around midnight, so they could have added to the assembly time. Because the bed is a platform style bed, it does not require a box spring. I purposely selected a platform bed for a couple of reasons: 1) no box spring needed and 2) it’s lower to the ground and perfect for kids.
Here are a few more angles of the gray button-tufted, platform bed. The modern silhouette is timeless and will be a staple in her bedroom for years to come.
Nightstands
Let’s move on to more furniture selections that I was inspired to purchase. Now, these two nightstands from Ikea almost took me out! The nightstands had so many parts and required a lot of effort. It literally took me hours to assemble them. Of course, I assembled them over the course of two weekends.
The quality of these nightstands is superb and will last a long time. So, if you enjoy assembling furniture and you want a sleek, minimal nightstand; these Ikea Bjorknas ones in birch are a great pick.
Desk
I made a decision to put a desk in my daughter’s bedroom to spark her creativity and hopefully be a great homework spot when she gets older. This desk was in my kids’ playroom, and it was purchased from Pottery Barn Kids over two years ago. It initially came with a hutch; however, I removed it in order to place floating shelves above the desk.
The white desk has two drawers to organize some of her belongings and an open cube for additional toy storage.
Rattan Chair
When I saw this rattan chair online at Target, my mouth dropped! I knew it would be perfect for a little cozy reading corner. When my daughter saw it, she was so happy. It’s so comfortable and is the perfect size for this corner of her room.
Bookshelf
The star of the room (and a splurge) is this Pottery Barn Teen Maison bookshelf. Not only is this bookshelf the perfect size, but it also compliments one of the accent metals in her space. Please stick around to see the other gold accents that I bring into her bedroom.
I can’t wait to style all of the new accent pieces that I’ve been purchasing for this bookshelf. The bookshelf is so spacious, so I’m trying to bring in a little more storage for her limited amount of toys.
If you’re interested in any of the items I’ve purchased for my daughter’s bedroom, please check them out below:
Now, that the furniture selections have been made, I am focusing on my lighting and storage for her space.
