It’s the most wonderful time of the year! For this reason, it’s time to celebrate the holidays and share my 2020 Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour. I’m excited to share how I’ve blended a modern glam look on the main floor and a traditional Christmas color palette in the basement.
My overall goals for decorating this year were to reuse the majority of my existing décor and add a few pieces from some of my favorite, budget-friendly retailers. For one thing, I picked up the majority of pieces from Target via their home delivery service (Shipt). Yes, I love same-day delivery from Target.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Without delay, let’s get into my modern farmhouse Christmas home tour. I want to start on the main floor in my family room. Let’s start with this gorgeous seven-foot table spruce tree, which was gifted to me by King of Christmas. I actually left the tree naked for a week or so until I pulled out all of my Christmas décor. At that point, I realized that green would be the dominant color of the main floor. Furthermore, I wanted to elevate the space using varying shades of mercury glass, gold, and off white ornaments and décor.
Gilded Christmas Tree
Every time I walk into our family room, I fall in love with our decorated Christmas tree. I love mixing different size ornaments with Christmas magnolia picks and floral sprays. To clarify, I do not use the traditional tree toppers, so these gold picks serve as my modern tree topper.
Instead of wrapping empty boxes this year, I decided to use these gorgeous white and gold gift boxes from Target. Also, I used a gold ribbon from Joann’s to jazz up the boxes. I know I’m not the only one who uses empty boxes to dress up my Christmas tree.
Cone Trees
As you can see, I have fallen in love with cone style Christmas trees this year. Last year, it was all about the bottle brush trees, but these cone trees make an appearance throughout our home’s main level.
Of course, my coffee table is one way I showcase my love of books, trays, and decorative objects. Wood and ceramic cone trees adorn my coffee table this year, along with a little Christmas floral arrangement I pulled together.
Console Table with Mercury Glass Trees
Equally, I love switching up my console/sofa table for the holiday season. You may have seen these Pottery Barn mercury glass tree cloches and World Market votive candle holders on my buffet last year; however, I added these festive, light-up up mercury glass trees from Target to my collection. If you want to see how I used them last year, check out my 2019 Christmas Home Tour here.
Coupled with spruce garland and mini gold ornaments, this array of mercury glass cone trees creates a glam tabletop display that can provide a little ambiance when lit up.
The black glass display cabinet has hints of Christmas to include glass Christmas trees and greenery.
White and Green Christmas Modern Farmhouse Kitchen
One of the main reasons I went with green as my primary color this Christmas season is directly related to my pewter green island. This bold color stands out against my more neutral furnishings and pairs well with the gold accents.
Besides, I wanted to keep the kitchen décor simple to highlight my updated kitchen backsplash.
Additionally, I have a few cone-shaped Christmas trees sprinkled throughout in both white and green colors.
Christmas Village with White Houses
Now, let move into my dining room. I have many cloches and bottle brush trees from last year, so I clustered a number of them on the sideboard and a centerpiece for the dining table.
Setting the scene for Christmas, I created a little tree village as one of the dining room’s focal points. It’s neutral while also blending with the theme of green and off white décor. Let’s not forget that these bottle brush trees are indeed conical in shape, just like the other decorative trees throughout the main level.
Snowy Christmas Tree Centerpiece
Certainly, the dining table represents sort of a cut tree, a winter wonderland that’s a stone’s throw from the village.
I love the varying heights of the bottle brush trees nestled in these hurricane candle holders from Magnolia Home. Not only are they so versatile, and they can be used for any season.
Using Bold Christmas Colors in the Basement
The main level glam Christmas décor provides a wonderful juxtaposition to the basement’s more traditional color palette. As much as a love the glam look upstairs, I was going for a fun, family-friendly Christmas look in the basement. Our family spends a lot of time in the basement, so I wanted a more kid-friendly look.
With this intention, I decided to give the kids’ indoor playhouse a Christmas vibe. This is my way of including them in decorating for Christmas and creating amazing memories in this cute little spot.
This is the first time I’m showing a decorated basement tour. Although there are several rooms, my focus this year was on a large family room.
The Restoration Hardware Savoy sofas were stored in the unfinished basement for about two years. I initially purchased them for my family room; however, they were not a good fit. These tufted sofas’ occasional style and height did not fit upstairs; however, they are perfect for the basement family room.
I love the white, black, and grey palette in this space, so I kept the pillows and throw blanket simple with a red and green hint.
Modern Farmhouse Christmas Decor
The modern farmhouse theme is seen throughout with hints of red, and this perfectly styled coffee table.
This year I am so excited to decorate a fireplace mantle…especially since we don’t have one upstairs. I went with a simple garland and these cute barns I found at Target.
My idea for trimming this tree was to go bold with different hues of red and gold. I love how simple yet elegant this tree is. Just because it’s in the basement doesn’t mean it can stand out.
Surely, a well-stocked wet bar is perfect for our modern farmhouse Christmas basement. We plan to spend copious amounts of time watching Christmas movies, eating popcorn, candy, and drinking hot chocolate.
Christmas Themed Kid’s Indoor Playhouse
Undoubtedly, my kids are excited about their decorated indoor playhouse. It reminds me of a ski chalet at the end of a tree forest. You get this theme.
I’m excited about the memories we’re creating this year for Christmas since we’re celebrating at home due to the current health restrictions.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour this year. If so, please let me a comment below.
