Follow my blog with BloglovinAfter browsing through the Better Homes and Garden holiday magazine, I was totally inspired to create a winter wonderland themed Christmas look for my home. I also knew that I had to incorporate emerald green into the color palette since it was popping up all over the catalogs. After all, green is my favorite color.
The best place to start would be my eat-in kitchen area. This the first place that I decorated! I discovered these bottle brush trees for the first time this year, and I feel in love with the idea of including them throughout my house. I purchased so many of them, it was literally starting to look like a tree forest in my home. With that being said, you will also see the cut tree theme throughout as well (fresh and snow covered). This ties in nicely with my use of emerald green as my accent color.
Some of the cloches came with bases; however I wanted to display the trees and figurines (or ornaments) without the bases for a cleaner look. It also allowed me to have more clearance for the taller bottle brush trees.
I wrapped snow-covered garland around the cloches to give it the look of a woodsy look or even a forest.
For my taller bottle brush trees, I placed them on a tree stump to further add to the cut tree look and feel. These trees are from Michaels, World Market, Hobby Lobby and Pier 1.
If you want to be even fancier, you can even add LED lights to brighten up the display.
The bowl filled with cut bottle brush trees, moss balls and pine cones is the perfect centerpiece for my round table. The snow covered sheet moss in the bowl creates the perfect ground covering for my tree forest.
In keeping with the theme, I also wanted to create snow globe jars with cut trees, houses, ornaments and figurines. These were by far my favorite DIY to create for my Christmas décor. The faux snow in the jars says winter wonderland in such a playful way. This was a very inexpensive DIY and could be done using existing jars.
I created this centerpiece using a dough bowl that purchased from Wayfair some time ago. It’s a perfect accessory for every holiday, and is so easy to style. I’ve been waiting on the right time to use the lamb’s ear in an arrangement. This turned out perfectly.
I decided to create a hot chocolate bar to warm up our bodies after playing outdoors in the winter wonderland and cutting down the mini Christmas trees. The snow globe jars were moved over to the hot chocolate bar where they fit in perfectly with the tiered tray and the hot chocolate themed display.
I styled the tiered tray with a few Etsy finds along with some items I picked up during the many Christmas décor shopping trips. The tray was a Homegoods find, and I love the galvanized snowflakes on the wooden tray.
Another DIY that I love is the hot chocolate mix that I created in these simple mason jars. I’ve often received these are gifts during Christmas, so I wanted to share the love this holiday season!
As I stated earlier, I wanted to use emerald green as my accent color. I found these accent pillows on H&M, and I knew they would be perfect for my theme.
I didn’t want a lot of patterns; however I did want to add texture. This is where the faux fur and waffle weave pillows come into play. They provide the perfect addition to the velvet green and beige pillows.
The simplicity is furthered carried into the cozy corner with the nubuck chair and plaid throw.
Here’s another fun DIY project that I did. I’m so proud of it. I basically took some 2″ wooden blocks, painted them emerald green, and used a stencil and white paint to spell out Christmas. I also stenciled a snowflake to add some balance to the cloches. The smaller cloche with the cut tree was purchased at the Christmas Tree Shoppe.
The coffee table décor is simple yet it makes a statement with the birch tree candles nestled in the black wooden tray with icy garland. The iron candle holders from Pottery Barn along with the wreath and green candles are an excellent addition to the coffee table décor.
More bottle brush Christmas trees! These actually light up!
I also decided to bring the tree forest theme into the family room. I filled up this tray with faux snow, pine cones and bottle brush trees to tie in the concept throughout the space. I’m obsessed with bottle brush trees this year!
The statement piece in the room has to be this very traditional Christmas tree wrapped in emerald green, gold and buffalo check ribbon! Now, this is a farmhouse Christmas tree. I opted for a more traditional tree with lots of red and gold ornaments. I purposely did not include any green ornaments since it’s sprinkled throughout the room. The velvet emerald green ribbon provides just enough contrast to the bold reds and golds throughout the tree. This is my signature tree look….loaded with ornaments and ribbon woven throughout the tree.
I wrapped some boxes to dress up the tree and fill in the space!
I repeated the birch wood theme in the firewood bin. This was a great Homesense find, and I couldn’t wait to style it with snowy branches and birch wood accents.
My existing Caleb lanterns from Pottery Barn round out the space. When illuminated at night, this is the coziest corner in the house!
The spruced up the accents on the sofa table by added a few plaid picks from Hobby Lobby. Once Christmas is over, I can remove them, and this space can transition to winter easily.
Since I was going with a very neutral dining room palette, I decided to tie the decorated spaces together with a little color in my foyer to balance the neutral decor in the dining room.
I starting purchasing mercury glass pieces to add to my collection in late summer. I knew that my Christmas tablescape would incorporate mercury glass, I just didn’t quite know how! Once I started shopping for Christmas décor, I fell in love with the mercury glass trees. I picked up a few along with the candle holders, and the vision became clear.
The earthly, yet elegant look, ties in well with the winter wonderland, tree forest theme I have in the other spaces. I’m thrilled at the outcome and how I was able to blend mercury glass pieces from different companies.
The mercury glass hurricane was a sale item I found in Pottery Barn when I was picking up the trees. I thought it would be a great piece to use as a centerpiece. I incorporated the birch wood theme along with some large mercury glass ornaments.
The new addition to my tableware are these beautiful glittery charges from Pier 1. They pair nicely with these inexpensive felt charges from Target and gives the table a layered look. Of course, my white Crate and Barrel tableware is always a staple in my tablescapes since I only use white casual dishes throughout my home.
The use of pine cones on the tablescape ties in the tree theme as well. I sprinkled them throughout the pine garland to give it more depth and detail along with the mercury glass ornaments.
The white napkins from Target and the napkin rings from Crate and Barrel finishes off the table well. This tablescape can transition into a winter theme even after Christmas dinner has been served.
I hope you enjoyed my Winter Wonderland Christmas Home Tour. I had a lot of fun decorating this year, and I know I will be able to use these pieces in my designs for years to come.
