One day while perusing Wayfair, I discovered a rustic dough bowl, and I was immediately smitten. All I could think of was all the ways I could style this large wooden bowl on my kitchen island. Since it arrived over a year ago, I have discovered so many ways to decorate using this unusual decor piece. In this blog post, I will highlight the 20 most beautifully decorated dough bowls I could find on Pinterest and Instagram. I believe you might be surprised by the types of dough bowl décor that is used in these perfectly styled bowls.
The Origins of the Dough Bowl
Traditionally, the origins of these large wooden bowls date back to the 1800s when families made homemade bread and biscuits. They frequently used dough bowls to mix and knead the dough while also allowing it to rise in this hand-carved wooden bowl. I’m sure there are still people who use these delightful bowls to make yummy homemade bread; however, we won’t focus on how they are used for food preparation. We will focus exclusively on new and vintage dough bowls that artfully display moss filler, dried flowers, succulents, faux blooming flowers, and other beautiful home decor items.
Dough Bowl Styling – Most Beautifully Styled (My Picks)
One of the best things I love the most about dough bowls is how versatile they are for seasonal home decor styling. Whether you use the shallow or really deep bowls, you can always find beautiful ways to showcase your seasonal decor. If you nail the styling, a dough bowl can stand alone on an island, coffee table, or on any other surface. It’s such a substantial piece, so you don’t have to overdo it in a vignette to get the most impact.
In this post, I’m sharing my favorite uses of either new or vintage dough bowls to decorate every space in your home. As you will see, these bowls come in different sizes, shapes, and finishes. Likewise, each of these featured dough bowls is unique in how they combine seasonal décor with a twist. Let’s take a look at these beautifully decorated dough bowls and get inspired to create our own looks.
1. Real Flowers with a Hint of Faux
Using a dough bowl to display a bouquet of flowers is my new favorite way to decorate my dough bowl for spring. As a matter of fact, I used seasonal stems from my local grocery store along with some faux succulents to style my rustic bowl. It was a fun project, and I was thrilled with the outcome.
2. The Easter Bunny Hop
What a fun and festive bunny filled dough bowl. Of course, this bowl screams Easter and would be a great centerpiece for an Easter egg decorating party. It has all of the elements needed such as sunflowers, moss, bunnies, eggs, and little chickies. Furthermore, if you want to transition back to a spring look after Easter, remove the bunnies and just add more faux or real flowers for a fresh look.
3. Food Safe Bowl
Comparatively, a simple rustic dough bowl with faux greenery and muffins is equally as beautiful as the more decorative bowls. I love the simplicity and practicality of this bowl, and it would work well as a serving bowl for a nice spring brunch. It should be noted that not all dough bowls are food safe, so please read the descriptions prior to using them to serve and store perishable food items.
4. Round Bowl with Succulents
I absolutely love the look of this antique white round, dough bowl. In contrast, it’s not what you typically think of when you hear dough bowl; however, it’s such a stunning décor piece. The crackled look of the bowl along with the large succulents is a winner. To summarize, don’t judge a dough bowl by the size, shape, or color. As this look shows, beautifully decorated dough bowls are widely diverse and equally stunning when styled to perfection.
5. Layered and Texture Filled Bowl
This bowl is full of spring and could easily double as an Easter centerpiece. The flowers and these twig orb balls are perfectly layered to give this dough bowl a finished look. Admittedly, this look could easily transition into summer and fall. Don’t be afraid to load up your dough bowl with colorful flowers and other visually interesting decor pieces.
6. Baby’s Breath with a Side of Fruit
Are you obsessed with home decor that’s practical and beautiful? In this look, the fruit is displayed in a whitewashed dough bowl. Equally as beautiful, is the vase of baby’s breath next to the dough bowl. Even dough this is a practical look, the bowl is perfect as a display on a kitchen island or countertop.
7. Candles and Succulents
A handcrafted dough bowl with flameless neutral candles is a hit in every season. Of course, this look is perfect for almost every decor style. Together with an array of succulents, this dough bowl is elegant with a hint of rustic charm. It should be noted, that this dough bowl is very substantial at almost 30″ wide and almost 10″ deep.
8. Citrus Fruit and Green Stems
Again, this is by far one of the easiest ways to style a dough bowl (for any season). You can use citrus fruit (or any other seasonal fruit) or just pick up some faux lemons from Hobby Lobby. Unlike fresh seasonal fruit, your faux fruit will look great every day. Give it a shot for your in-between seasonal decor styling.
9. Chippy White
This chippy white (or antique white) dough bowl is such a great option for a farmhouse style home. I just recently purchased one from Etsy, and I can’t wait to style it. In the same way, we use fruit and flowers to style our bowl, you can also use decorative willow, moss, and boxwood spheres to fill your dough bowl for an earthy, in between seasons look. Furthermore, the textured items are a great addition for a neutral home aesthetic.
10. A Bowl of Hydrangeas
This dough bowl filled with overflowing hydrangeas makes me so happy. It’s a great spring look that could easily change colors as the seasons change from spring to summer. It’s an expansive bowl, and it could easily hold a lot of flowers. For this reason, hydrangeas are the perfect choice as a filler for this centerpiece. Furthermore, the use of real flowers would create such a warm and inviting vibe for your spring or summer tablescape.
11. Layers of Greenery
Together with sheet moss and ferns, this rustic dough bowl has all of the elements of a beautifully styled bowl. Moreover, it’s perfect for the transition from winter to spring when real flowers are not available. Not only does it have the greenery layer, it also adds texture by combining the concrete pots, birch limbs and Spanish moss.
12. Fresh Spring Flowers
Instead of the traditional bouquet of flowers in a vase, perfectly placed spring flowers elevates any dough bowl and provides instant color to your home. This look below, is the perfect addition to a French country home or even a rustic farmhouse style home. In particular, spring flowers such as lilac and hyacinths are the perfect choice for a stunning spring tablescape.
13. Peonies and Greenery
This look is another one of my favorites. I am certainly styling my rustic dough bowl with large peonies and eucalyptus stems. Clearly, I love Karen’s beautiful dough bowl decor since this chippy piece is featured more than once on my list of the most beautifully decorated dough bowls. I especially love the contrast of the white dishes and pitcher against the wood tones in her kitchen.
14. Succulents and Candles
For a vibrant look, you can style a dough bowl with bright green moss, succulents and candles. For example, this would be a great coastal look at a beach house or a cottage. It’s simple with a hint of elegance that would make a great centerpiece or accent for a console table.
15. Pitcher with Hydrangeas as a Centerpiece
This beautifully decorated dough bowl has all of the elements of a spring tablescape with a hint of Easter. For instance, the white hydrangeas in the pitcher says farmhouse spring decor while also anchoring the dough bowl and providing height for this centerpiece. The eucalyptus and lamb’s ear stems provide the right amount of balance and blend well with the bright green faux boxwood accents.
16. A Crock, Candle and a Dough Bowl
Similar to the dough bowls featured above, this bowl offers a unique and fresh approach to styling using flameless candles and greenery. Without a doubt, the crock next to the bowl adds to the look and feel of the actual decorated bowl.
17. Easter and Spring Details
What an amazing Easter centerpiece filled with color, texture and seasonal elements. Not only does this dough bowl include spring florals and greenery but also colorful Easter eggs. I think this is the perfect dough bowl decor for spring and/or Easter brunch as well. Of course, the tulips, bunnies, and carrots add details and creates a playful tablescape.
18. Real Plants
Besides being simple, this dough bowl is undoubtedly the easiest to create. All of you need is real plants from a nursery or a home improvement store. Whereas the other curated looks require a certain amount of décor elements to create a beautifully decorated dough bowl, this feature can be created with one particular type of plant. Personally, I think this dough bowl styling is likely the least expensive of the dough bowls shown here even if you consider a thrifted look.
19. Bowl of Tulips
Let’s start with this vignette! It’s pretty amazing with so many spring and Easter details. For one thing, the garden theme is so appropriate either as a spring or summer transition look. Unlike some of the other dough bowls featured, this bowl is fairly small. Nonetheless, it’s size does not take away from this perfectly filled bowl of tulips, moss balls, Easter eggs, and decorative spheres.
20. Soft Pink Ranunculus Flowers
What a perfect flower to drape so effortlessly in a dough bowl. Whether faux or real, you can’t go wrong with ranunculus flowers. In addition, the hint of willow stems gives this rustic family room a soft, delicate spring look. Despite the simplicity of the styled dough bowl, the size along steals the show. You could place a lot of ranunculus stems in this bowl and not tip it over.
